When to use this skill

Plan what must be documented at a crime scene through notes, photographs, video, sketches, measurements, identifiers, timestamps, and logs. Use scene-reconstruction-hypothesis-manager to test competing accounts of what may have happened. Do not reconstruct events here.

Method

  1. Define the scene identifier, orientation and documentation sequence.
  2. Plan overall, mid-range and close-up coverage, including scaled and unscaled views where authorised.
  3. Link every image, sketch, note and measurement to stable scene and exhibit identifiers.
  4. Record author, date, time, time basis, environmental conditions, access, changes and processing actions contemporaneously.
  5. Preserve correction history so the original entry, amendment, author, time and reason remain visible.
  6. Compare completed logs against the plan and flag missing views, scales, orientation, identifiers or context.

Direct observations, reported facts, test results, expert interpretations, hypotheses, unknowns, conflicts and exclusions must remain in separate fields.
